BEFORE REPORTING
Gather as much information as possible:
The child's name, age, and address.
Parent or caregiver’s name, address, and other identifying details.
Description of the abuse you witnessed, including the extent of the abuse and the individual responsible.
Details about any previous incidents or concerns.
Any additional information that may be helpful.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW ALL OF THIS INFORMATION TO MAKE A REPORT.
Remember, you have an obligation to protect children in your community!
You cannot be held liable for making a report in good faith and you do not need to know for sure
that a child is being abused or neglected to make a report.
If you suspect, don’t second-guess—contact DSS and law enforcement to address!
